Experience the Supply Chain 2019!

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, the second edition of 'Experience the Logistics Chain' took place in the logistics hotspot Venlo-Venray. Some 400 schoolchildren and students from the North Limburg region visited several leading logistics service providers, including KLG Europe.
They got a better idea of this booming sector by being introduced to logistics and the entire supply chain in a practical way. We showed the Warehousing and European Distribution parts of the logistics chain.
We welcomed pupils and students from Fontys, Maastricht University and VMBO/ HAVO/ VWO students from various schools in our region. They were welcomed with a warm welcome and walked in groups across our shipping department towards our warehouse.
There they were given a company presentation based on a video after which the group was divided into 2 groups.
We had devised two interactive activities for the school children and students, namely a Warehouse Workshop and an Escape Room for European Distribution.
At the Warehouse Workshop, five groups were made. From each group, one group member went into a trailer where there were all kinds of boxes with 5 different colors. The one standing in the trailer put the boxes with their own color on the conveyor belt. The other group members took off the boxes of different sizes and had to stack them on a pallet. The maximum height of the pallet was only allowed to be a maximum of 1.35 m and had to be estimated with the naked eye. In the process, the boxes were not allowed to break, were not allowed to protrude over the pallet and had to have as few boxes left over as possible. Finally, a HoloLens was used to measure the height of the pallets and the group that was closest to this was the winner.
During the Escape Room, the schoolchildren and students had a challenge to plan transportation and load the trucks correctly. Of course, this included puzzles, zip codes, locks, math problems and traps. The team that made the planning as quickly and efficiently as possible was the winner.
Afterwards a company visit took place with participants from UWV, municipalities and the Werkgeversservicepunt. Rob van den Brandt, Operations Manager, and Linsey van Leeuwen, HR Coordinator, gave a brief introduction about working at KLG. Then three vacancies were explained; Warehouse Coordinator, Expedient and Customer Service. Then three KLG colleagues who fill these positions joined in. This gave the participants the opportunity to ask specific questions about, for example, the tasks, responsibilities, atmosphere and training opportunities within KLG.
It was a successful day! We were able to share our passion for logistics with the pupils and students and let them experience the entire chain.
